I left the country in 1974 and didn't get to see it's opening in '73. I finally had the chance to visit Ormoc city in 1997 and just had to see the "Marcos Bridge" as it was commonly called by the locals at that time. I felt pride inside knowing we had that structure (although not the longest) but still an accomplishment for a country labeled as "poor" or one of the "most corrupt". I just have one nagging question, who gets to maintain the bridge? I don't see any toll plazas on either side of the bridge, does the government allocate funds for maintenance? I hope so for the future generations sake. Our group went not only to see but some of us really walked the whole bridge from the Samar side back to Leyte side.
