San Juanico Bridge is really a wonderful engineering achievement connecting the islands of Samar and Leyte. It has a very nice view of the sea as well as neighboring islets. I felt and breathed its cool windy breeze and I wish that one day, (since I am a health buff who is fond of jogging), I could negotiate its beautiful stretch. Is it possible? Is jogging allowed in this bridge?

Ako taga leyte, albuera 12 kms from ormoc city serving in baybay, leyte as a fireman in 1981-1984, transfered to Ormoc city fire Dept, until the EDSA REVOLT in 1986 my wife was A police woman in Baybay, Leyte and my father in-law was a copper too. but only few are honest to goodness during those regime bisan asa ka sa mundong ito may corruption- they, are everywhere... anyway nobody is perfect in this material world or any nation/country in this planet we called EARTH.Mother Earth is the most beautiful the most blue and awesome planet in the universe that GOD created but the species who inhabit specially humo sapien (human beings) are the most destructive/constructive species exist. San Juanico Bridge was a REPARATION GOODS FROM THE JAPANESE IMPERIAL GOVT.during World War 11 they are defeated by the Allied-American Troops,, this monetary paid by the Japanese Govt was in the form of building infra-structures and San Juanico Steel Bridge was one of the product under the Marcos Regime. This is ICONIC STRUCTURE IN THE WESTERN VISAYAS AND WE ARE VERY PROUD OF THIS COZ THIS is a link for SAMAR AND LEYTE CONNECTING TOGETHER FOR OUR FUTURE GENERATIONS. SOME OTHER STRUCTURE IS ALSO ICONIC IN MANILA THE PICC, FOLK ARTS THEATERE & THE PHILIPPINE PLAZA. AND SOME OTHER THINGS FEW TO MENTION, LIKE THE PROFESSIONALIZATION OF THE FIRE AND POLCE DEPT WHICH WAS TAKEN FROM THE POWER OF LOCAL MAYOR THE APPOINTING AND ABSURPTION INTO THE SERVICE THIS ARE SOME OF THINGS THAT MARCOS REGIME HAS DONE --ONLY GOD IS PERFECT IN EVERY RACE THERE IS ALWAYS GOOD AND BAD,Cheers (*_*)edcvjr.

Goodday to everyone!Icame across to all the comments of the people who visited the well known bridge! really, its beautiful bridge, as my best friend say? its a breath taking view! wow! especially when early dawn? ohhhh!oh my!! i love to take my loveed husband and hold his hand and whisper to him! i love thee!-- hmmm--But i have a few suggestions for the government, to install a toll booth on the bridge between Sta. Rita and Tacloban-to benefit the cities. You wouldnt believe how much money you can accumulate from all the tolls collected!--But the money should be going to the poor people, and third party oeversight should be used to help eliminate corruption.I hope this shluld be done within three years.Thank you for reading my comments! God bless Samar and leyte!-Mabuhay-au revoir!Merci!

It's beautiful. I left the country in 1974 and didn't get to see it's opening in '73. I finally had the chance to visit Ormoc city in 1997 and just had to see the "Marcos Bridge" as it was commonly called by the locals at that time. I felt pride inside knowing we had that structure (although not the longest) but still an accomplishment for a country labeled as "poor" or one of the "most corrupt". I just have one nagging question, who gets to maintain the bridge? I don't see any toll plazas on either side of the bridge, does the government allocate funds for maintenance? I hope so for the future generations sake.

Marcos regime but it was funded by the Japanese government. fact was when the steel used there arrived at sitio candaya, there was a written message in it.= japan repatriation to the people of the philippines and then they painted it.most of the engineers who came were japanese. ive seen it with my two eyes since i was eight until it was finished.almost all the naterials used were carried by barges and plced infront of our house which was the old candaya rice mill.it was not there anymore but you can see the remnants of the old port.

It was years ago when our family went to see this bridge. I still consider that experience one of the best...because I have seen the most spectacular bridge here in the Philippines. We should as people be very proud of this landmark bridge and hope it inspires us to build more structures to show the whole world the best in us.

Since you are familiar with the place, could you give us some suggestions regarding the scenic spots along the way, where we could spend the night (this will be a group outing). Now I've been abroad thirty somewhat years and i still long to walk through the same bridge where I met my first GF and found my first love not for anybody else but the Bridge of San Juanico.

I agree, that it was the Marcos Administration that contributed much for the benefit of the Filipino people. None of the past four presidents ever made any projects that the whole country benefited. The only thing that I can say is Aguino changed the name of MIA to Ninoy Aquino Int'l. Airport pweh... and she was fast to let the Americans leave at Subic, Olongapo. Those four presidents were suppose to be better than Marcos, but wound out to be worst. The dollar even went up to 55 pesos, economy got worsen; people got poorer; all skilled people leave the country to find opportunities abroad; now the whole country depends on OFW remittances. What a shame! ...

well, i don`t know what to say...i am a bit speechless after viewing such a magnifiscent and picturesque views both ends of the bridge known as the Everlasting Love of the late president Ferdinand E. Marcos to the famous daughter of Leyte Madam Imelda Romualdez Marcos who still possess the goddess of beauty up to now...her looks symbolizes the eternal beauty of the bridge no matter what comes on her way...the bridge itself is the reflection of the mighty power of the Marcoses that no one could ever match to the rests who overtook the power from them, they were judged as corrupt couple but the country were in great abundance of projects that up to now the whole country enjoys.SAN JUANICO BRIDGE was once acclaimed as the longest bridge in Asia where the whole world ever witnessed and thanks for the effort of the late president Marcos, for once the PHILIPPINES became the tourism magnet of Asia and was envied by its neighboring ASEAN countries...to Madam Marcos, thank you so much for your unending love and support to the people of Leyte and Samar becâuse of your insight of uniting the two islands became possible and became the grandeur passage of the entire nation, and the symbol of pride and unity for all of us FILIPINOS!...without the Marcoses probably we are still in the dark of progress and development...to all readers pause for a while and think deeply on what projects have ever contributed for the benefits of every Filipino that we really enjoy and admire by the aquino, ramos, estrada and macapagal administrations...do they ever have? What they have in common...i bet you all know?
